Revista de Historia de la Psiquiatría, is a scientific,
independent publication, that benefits from the scientific support of
the Instituto de Historia del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas
(C.S.I.C.). It consists of an annual publication of about 300 pages, including
one volume for each semester.
aim of FRENIA is double: First to open an space of historical
reflexion on psychiatry and disciplines focused on the study of human
behaviour, and secondly to contribute to the development and implementation
of the history of psychiatry.
goal of FRENIA' writing team is to get that the analysis
and the critics cover the different domains related to a more rich discipline
if applied with a wide point of view, or to a narrow, tedious discipline
if the point of view is hagiographic and heroic. We refuse this last
approach that is more convenient to legitimize the profession and to
design a teleological route of the discipline, by forgetting matters
that are unpleasant to the academic psychiatry. We consider that the
history, any history, should be critic and pose problems. Our hope is
the magazine to contribute to the reflexion and to serve not only for
the development of the own history of psychiatry, but for the professionals
of the mental health and other disciplines (anthropology, history, sociology,
philosophy, etc.) who from their perspective can enrich the discussion
and extend the research themes.
